Located at the centre of North Chota Nagpur Division, Giridih shares its border with Nawada district of Bihar in North,Deoghar and Jamtara districts in the East, Hazaribagh and Koderma in the West and Dhanbad and Bokaro in the South. Spreading over 4853.56km.sq, Giridih is a storehouse of mica and coal field.
